Amble and Warkworth

The original test sites in Amble were The yacht club jetty, The Gut and Guilders burn. To support their bid for bathing water status at Little Shore, Amble volunteers have also begun to test at Little Shore.

The original test sites at Warkworth were The butts riverbank, New Warkworth bridge, Birling beck and the Boathouse landing. The Warkworth group have added sites above and below the Northumbria Water Ltd. water extraction site, and conducted one test at Spinney’s copse. They have now expanded testing in the Tyelaw burn below the Shilbottle sewage treatment works and at Station Cottages near where the Tyeloaw burn enters the Coquet.

The 2024 data from Amble and Warkworth test sites (both CRAG test sites and Environment Agency test sites) was summarised in a presentation. This indicated that some of the tributaries where showing high levels of nutrients. The Warkworth and Amble groups have expanded their test sites to investigate this further, notably in the Tyelaw burn.
